New Website, Free Improv Book, CD, and youtube channel

announcement:

Hello Everyone,

I'm starting out 2010 with a major website makeover, the release of my book Free Improvisation: A Practical Guide, a new CD Session III , and a youtube channel featuring clips from my improvised music series The Sessions.

Free Improvisation: A Practical Guide is my improvisation workbook, with over 100 non-stylistic improvisation exercises and helpful tips for teaching and practicing group (and solo) improvisation. Useful for all ages, musical groups, musical genres and technical levels.

Session III is an CD of improvisations by Tom Hall (tenor and bari sax), Marty Ballou (bass), and Jeff Galindo (trombone). Well, there are also 2 versions of Chaplin's "Smile", but they are very freely rendered!

My youtube channel has clips from my monthly improvised music series The Sessions. Right now, there are clips from:

Session III - same group as the CD (not the same music)
Session IV - Tom Hall, with Jeff Song (cello) and Curt Newton (drums)
Session V - Tom Hall, with Sonny Barbato (accordion) and Jerry Leake (percussion)

And of course, my newly beautified website, with lots of mp3s, photos, and videos, the new book and CD, improv shirts, my new blog, and more!!

Please check it all out and let me know what you think! I'm very excited about it all and would welcome any discussion of any of it!!

Tom!

It's been an awful long time since I've heard from you! Glad to see an update on your work!

Thanks! I'm happy to have

Thanks! I'm happy to have concluded this last long phase of thinking and writing about improv (a lot of which happened right here on freejazz.org!) with the publication of what I think is a very useful book.

I'm glad you responded - I was thinking about posting a provocative subject title like "Is it possible to teach free improvisation?" to see if anybody was still here!!
