There's a couple ways of looking at this, i think...
Yes, Marsalis is a dick, but maybe Ochs isn't playing "jazz" (in a purist, mueseum-esque way, at least)? Perhaps the term simply has too much baggage attached to it for anyone to continue using it for anything beyond what the grammy-hoarding purveyor of taste suggests it should include.
On the other hand, ain't it a shame that a perfectly good word should become unusable?
